My first time at Harborfest

I’ve been living in Coastal Virginia since January 2012, but going to the big events in our area isn’t something I really did. Either my ex wasn’t feeling it, I wasn’t feeling it, or he was away and I didn’t want to go alone. Now that my situation has changed, I’m excited to experience all of the EPIC experiences that Hampton Roads has to offer. Harborfest is one of those epic experiences, so epic that they are now calling this weekend EPIC Weekend to highlight all the different activities this weekend Downtown.

Since Harborfest is a free event in a great location downtown, you can visit without having to spend your whole day only in the Fest. You might not want to leave though! They have so many sights and three stages bringing all the sounds too! Lots of the activities offered in the Fest are free; new this year they had body marbling which looked neat.

There is so much to do! Here were my top 3 favorite parts of Harborfest 2019:

  1. The Fireworks. I’m a sucker for a good fireworks display and this is one of the top displays I’ve seen in our area.
  2. Food truck row. Y’all know I’m a foodie and they had some of my favorite trucks out here, plus a few I haven’t seen around town! Since there was so much variety the lines moved quickly! I opted for a pina colada in a pineapple (I got a refill too) and a turkey leg. I don’t know why I was craving a turkey leg with so many local food truck options, but holy crap it was so good! No regrets!
  3. All the boats/ships – I’m not sure what the proper term is for them. I didn’t tour any of the historical ones, but they were super cool to check out up close! I even found one named “Miss Anne”!

I can’t wait to explore more next year!
